Girls, be warned ! guys are picking up

Now girls,
I know you thought that the term
 'fashion' was 'your' monopoly,
but
let me warn you that
the whole idea is a figment of your imagination!

Look around and you are bound to find men
in charismatic or punk avatars - in Armani suits

or in shorts and Ed Hardy tees.

The super-hyped fashion shows
may not make the men walk the ramp as much as
 their women counterparts,
 but
fashion consciousness is spreading like wildfire
with men on the streets.
The distinction between fashion
on the runways and on the streets
is fast becoming blurred.

The change at the frontline of fashion
- the menswear shows,
is gradually reaching the farthest corners of our nation.
Now,
most girls will agree with me
that they simply love picking up stuff off the roads or racks,
not glancing at the label they come with.

But
a lot of men,
it seems, are brand conscious
when it comes to choosing a personal style.

BooN, quips,
"Brands are always a better option
because they last longer.
Also,
many fashion designers are churning out

really cool stuff in collaboration
with international brands.
So, you get a stylish look with stuff that lasts long."

However, my another friend Abhisake,
disagrees,
 "I don't look for labels
when it comes to choosing clothes for my wardrobe.
 If something looks
good on you and you can carry it off well,
there's no real reason to stick to brands."

Cotton pants, cargoes, knit shirts and sports coats
have made a huge comeback into
our fashionable dude's latest wardrobe.
Fancy waistcoats under blazers are flaunted
with élan at happening social dos.
And of course,
the good old jeans and sweatshirts
have remained a fad never to fade.

Ali Mohamad, admits,
"A pair of jeans and a casual T-shirt
would be all that a man would go for earlier.
 But
now men seem to put in equal effort to look good.
The credit culture has made it possible
for most men to invest in their looks.
Brands are in big time;
and since at workplace you need to wear formals,
men don't really mind shelling out for branded clothes."

Weekend dressing at workplace
has brought in the concept of reinventing men's wardrobe.
Chinos, jackets, three quarters
have become quite common at workplace on weekends.
Fashion is rightly linked to changes in the social sphere too.

The teeming pubs, resto-bars and clubs in the city
 have actualised our
'oh-so-cool'
urban man's dressing-up dreams.

Ali further comments,
"Clubwear has revolutionised men's fashion
as more and more people try to look presentable
and hence establish contacts.
At parties,
you'll see people trying to impress others
by investing in stylish designer wear that sets one apart."
Don't be surprised to see a guy walking past,
wearing yuppie casual khakis,
funky shoes and a nice sports shirt, on your way to work.

In fact,
don't be surprised to note that
they come from high-end designer stores.
Our young executive CEOs are opting
for nothing less than a Giorgio Armani,
YSL or Hugo Boss for that posh evening parté to woo eyeballs.

 Well,
the age of chivalry may or may not be dead,
but the age of male vanity has sure had a makeover.
